Both the front and rear cameras are powered by the 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor, making this one of the few dual-channel dash cams where both cameras use the same flagship Sony STARVIS 2 technology. The front records at 2K QHD @ 60FPS for smooth, blur-free footage, while the rear captures 2K QHD @ 30FPS with a wide 160° field of view. Dual Sony STARVIS 2 — Both Cameras, Front and Rear
Unlike most dual-channel dash cams that pair a premium front sensor with a budget rear unit, the A229 Plus uses 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensors in both cameras:
- Front: 2K QHD (2560×1440) @ 60FPS | 140° field of view
- Rear: 2K QHD (2560×1440) @ 30FPS | 160° field of view
The 60FPS front recording reduces motion blur significantly vs. standard 30FPS — making license plates and fast-moving vehicles sharper and more readable. The 160° rear FOV is exceptionally wide, capturing adjacent lanes and the full width of your rear window. Dual-channel HDR automatically balances exposure on both cameras simultaneously — preventing license plates from washing out in headlights and preserving detail in dark parking garages and on unlit roads.
Supercapacitor Design — More Durable Than Lithium Battery Dash Cams
The A229 Plus uses a supercapacitor instead of a lithium-ion battery — a meaningful durability advantage. Supercapacitors handle extreme temperature swings far better than lithium batteries, which degrade and can swell in hot vehicles. The result is a dash cam that lasts longer, performs more reliably in summer heat, and is safer in extreme climates. This is the same design philosophy used in premium Thinkware and Blackvue units costing significantly more.
Quad-Mode GPS + 5GHz Wi-Fi — Built-In
The A229 Plus includes a built-in quad-mode GPS module that simultaneously uses GPS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and GLONASS satellite systems for faster lock times and more accurate positioning. Speed, location, and timestamps are embedded in every video file for insurance documentation and ticket disputes.
Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz + 5GHz) enables fast video downloads and live preview via the VIOFO app (iOS & Android) without removing the SD card. The 5GHz band delivers significantly faster transfer speeds than 2.4GHz-only connections.

Additional modes include Time Lapse (continuous low-frame-rate coverage) and Low Bitrate (extended recording for overnight monitoring).
Note: Parking mode requires the VIOFO HK4 Hardwiring Kit (sold separately). The built-in voltage cutoff protects your vehicle battery. For extended parking mode use, a dedicated battery pack such as the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 is recommended.
2.4" LCD Screen + 512GB Max SD
The built-in 2.4" LCD screen lets you review footage and adjust settings directly on the camera. The A229 Plus supports microSD cards up to 512GB — enough for days of dual 2K footage before loop recording begins. Use a high-endurance card rated for dash cam use to handle the constant write cycles reliably.
