The VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH is the flagship dual-channel dash cam in the A229 series — and the world’s first dash cam to feature dual Sony STARVIS 2 sensors in both channels. The front camera uses the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 to record in 4K UHD (3840×2160) @ 30FPS, while the rear uses the 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 for 2K QHD (2560×1440) @ 30FPS — each sensor optimized for its channel. Dual-channel HDR, built-in quad-mode GPS, dual-band 5GHz Wi-Fi, offline voice controls, buffered parking mode, and a CPL filter included in the box. This is the complete package for drivers who want the best evidence possible from both ends of their vehicle.

Industry-First Dual Sony STARVIS 2 — Different Sensors, Optimized Per Channel

Most dual-channel dash cams use the same sensor in both cameras, or pair a premium front with a budget rear. The A229 Pro takes a different approach — each channel uses a distinct Sony STARVIS 2 sensor optimized for its role:

• Front — 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678: 4K UHD (3840×2160) @ 30FPS | 140° FOV — the same flagship sensor used in the single-channel A119M Pro, delivering maximum resolution and detail for forward-facing evidence
• Rear — 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675: 2K QHD (2560×1440) @ 30FPS | 160° FOV — an exceptionally wide rear view that captures adjacent lanes and the full width of your rear window

Both sensors deliver wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity than the previous STARVIS generation, eliminating the common compromise of low-quality rear footage. Whether it’s a tailgater, a rear-end collision, or a parking lot hit-and-run, the rear camera captures it with the same Sony STARVIS 2 clarity as the front.

Dual-Channel HDR — Both Cameras, Day and Night

HDR is active on both the front and rear cameras simultaneously, automatically balancing exposure to handle the lighting transitions that trip up standard cameras: dark tunnels to bright sunlight, oncoming headlights on unlit roads, dimly lit parking garages. The result is footage where license plates don’t wash out in your own headlights and where details in shadows remain readable — from both ends of your vehicle at the same time.

Built-In Quad-Mode GPS + 5GHz Dual-Band Wi-Fi

The A229 Pro includes built-in quad-mode GPS using GPS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and GLONASS simultaneously for fast lock times and accurate positioning in urban environments. Speed, location, and timestamps are embedded in every video file for insurance documentation and ticket disputes.

Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz + 5GHz) enables fast video downloads and live preview via the VIOFO app (iOS & Android) without removing the SD card. The 5GHz band delivers significantly faster transfers than 2.4GHz-only connections — practical for quickly pulling 4K clips after an incident.

Voice Controls + Voice Notifications — Hands-Free Operation

Built-in voice controls let you operate the camera without touching it — say “Lock the video,” “Take photo,” “Turn on Wi-Fi,” or “Turn on screen” to trigger functions instantly while keeping your hands on the wheel. Voice notifications keep you informed of recording status, setting changes, and memory card errors so you always know the camera is working properly.

Buffered Parking Mode — 15 Seconds Before, 30 Seconds After

When hardwired, the A229 Pro activates intelligent 24/7 parking surveillance across three modes:

• Buffered Auto Event Detection — saves 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after any motion or impact event for complete incident context
• Time Lapse — continuous low-frame-rate recording for long-term monitoring with minimal storage use
• Low Bitrate Recording — extended continuous recording at reduced file size for overnight coverage

Note: Parking mode requires the VIOFO HK4-C Hardwiring Kit (USB-C, sold separately). For extended parking mode use, a dedicated battery pack such as the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 is recommended.

CPL Filter Included + 2.4" LCD Screen + 512GB Max SD

The A229 Pro ships with a CPL filter included for the front camera — reducing windshield glare and dashboard reflections for significantly cleaner daytime footage. The built-in 2.4" LCD screen lets you review footage and adjust settings directly on the camera. Supports microSD cards up to 512GB — use a high-endurance card rated for dash cam use to handle the sustained write demands of dual-channel 4K+2K recording. The included 6-meter rear camera cable is sufficient for most sedans, SUVs, and minivans.
